Second Hand Jewellery, the Do's & Dont's

When shopping for Second Hand or Vintage Jewellery, the options are endless.  There is always tons in the showcases at Value Village, or the local thrift store. I keep my eyes open for timeless pieces and over trendy pieces that are having their second go around and are back in fashion again.

The fave piece of the people of late is the coin necklace.  I've found a few and they sold so quickly in the shop (hoping to find more soon!).  I haven't kept one for myself yet, but will have to one day.  They are so simple, yet make such a statement, and are great for layering.

With big earrings being back in fashion (when were they not?!), there is always a bountiful selection of those available.  Figure out what shape or size of dangle you like and go wild! Anything with a marbled or tortoiseshell finish will be right on trend.  I suggest wiping down the earring with alcohol for sanitary purposes.

A kinda surprising piece to find is watches.  The retro trend is in with replicas being sold at Urban Outfitters, but why not have the real thing. It's a good idea to have the sales clerk check to make sure the watch is working, and in case a new watch battery is in order, they run fairly cheap.

My personal jewellery style has evolved over the years, but I have always held onto dainty simple pieces for everyday wear. And I have a not so secret obsession with midi rings (which are obviously more current, not so much vintage). They accent that second hand or vintage piece perfectly.
